I'm Maritza — and this is the food I grew up on. Mexican-American comfort food, made the way my family has always made it: in a real kitchen, for real weeknights, with whatever's in the fridge and a little bit of love. Soy Maritza — y esta es la comida con la que crecí. Comida mexicana de confort, hecha como mi familia siempre la ha hecho: en una cocina de verdad, para noches de verdad, con lo que haya en el refri y un poquito de amor.

I started sharing my recipes because so many of them only lived in my head — a palmful of this, a "you'll know when it's ready" of that. Writing them down means they don't get lost, and that you can make them in your own kitchen too. Empecé a compartir mis recetas porque muchas solo vivían en mi cabeza — un puñito de esto, un "ya sabes cuándo está listo" de aquello. Escribirlas significa que no se pierden, y que tú también las puedas hacer en tu cocina.

Every recipe here is one I actually cook, and everything's written in English and Spanish — because my kitchen lives on both sides of the border, and I figured yours might too. Cada receta aquí es una que de verdad cocino, y todo está escrito en inglés y español — porque mi cocina vive en los dos lados de la frontera, y pensé que la tuya también.

Nothing goes up until I've actually made it in my own kitchen. That's the whole promise — if it has my name on it, I've cooked it, tasted it, and fed it to the people I love. Nada se publica hasta que de verdad lo haya hecho en mi cocina. Esa es la promesa — si lleva mi nombre, lo cociné, lo probé y se lo di de comer a la gente que quiero.
